“It’s your world. Those three words are now so engrained in me, I might as well get them tattooed across my forehead.” –My journal entry of 2019 (update, I did actually get a tattoo of them… but not on my forehead.)
Those words are a reminder that we face choices every day. That we might not be able to control all of our circumstances but we always have the power to control how we respond. They are a reminder to live with the spirit that the world is ours to mold, to shape, to change, to design. Get after it. It won’t be easy, but at least it’s yours. You’ve got one shot. Make it meaningful. It’s your world.
If you came here from Prickly Pear:
Hey Prickly Pear fam. It's been a few months since we last got in touch.
Just like the seasons come and go, we've evolved over the last few months. We started The Commissary in peak quarantine and helped us make sense of this weird time.
But now we've had to increase our focus on our work projects. Lucky for both of us, what we work on for a living is very much aligned with our personal joys.
For me (Maria), writing is a common thread that has been appearing in work and life. It’s why we started the Commissary.
But what I've been struggling with for months now is the feeling that a lot of what I write (in my journals and laptop for my own eyes) isn’t anything new. It’s all based off ideas that I hear on podcasts, read in books, or wisdom that comes out of many calls with mentors.
I write to myself because I feel like it helps me make sense of the world around me and navigate my life. But I’ve kept these writings to myself because I felt the ideas I write about aren’t anything new. That I’d be continuing to the noise if I ever shared them. So many other people explain things in much better ways than I ever will. So why even try?
Then I read an article from someone who was struggling with this very thing, and it changed my perspective. It doesn’t matter that others have already said much of what you have to say. Because we as humans forget, and we need to remember.
We need new messengers and stories that remind us what is true in life. We need messengers to pass on wisdom. To repeat wisdom.
We all experience the same rays of sunlight but each have our own magnifying glass.
So while the core ideas might be the same, we should tell old lessons with new stories. Your story.
This concept gave me a sense of freedom that it’s okay to share my writings and thoughts. My writing will be hosted on Substack where people can read and comment. I’ll do my best to interpret the rays of sun and hope that it will help others magnify them for their own lives. So that each of us can feel better, do better, and live better in our own ways.
To remind ourselves that it's our world.
So, while The Commissary is on hiatus, you can sign up here to receive my new personal project, It’s Your World writings.
I'm excited to develop myself and my writing skills with this new phase. Thank you all for your loving kindness and support, always.
❤️ Maria
